The enchanting thatched Nhongo Lodge offers accommodation in the heart of the African bush, situated within the 3000 HA Marloth Park Reserve adjoining the Kruger National Park on the southern border of the Crocodile River . From the nearby Crocodile Bridge Entrance Gate there is easy access to the greater Kruger National Park, but the Marloth Park Reserve itself hosts a wide variety of game that you can enjoy as they roam around the lodge . Lionspruit is adjacent to Marloth Park and is home to Lion, Leopard, Rhino and Buffalo (Elephants are not present due to the pressure their immense size places on small game reserves – but these animals are plentiful in Kruger).
Both Nhongo Lodge and Marloth Park Conservancy are a birdwatcher’s paradise. Visitors have the opportunity to walk along the Crocodile River & view game in the Kruger Park on the opposite bank, as a fence prevents large game from crossing between Kruger Park & Marloth Park.
The Lodge can accommodate up to 12 persons. There are 6 en-suite air-conditioned rooms, 5 of which have patios. The Lodge boasts a full kitchen which is fully equipped, complete with its own chef. Meals are served in communal areas, be it outside for a sunrise breakfast or inside for one of our sumptuous dusk buffet - styled dinners. Some thing more traditional to the South African Culture is Nhongo Safaris’ famous “braai’s” (barbeque) outside under the stars. Sit around the large bonfire drinking in the atmosphere with nocturnal bush sounds that come to life as the sun sets, or enjoy meals offered in the boma area with a choice of tantalising wines.
You’ll soon come to know the familiar sound of a lion’s roar or the call of a hyena and even possibly the grunting of a hippo in the river. Not only do you hear what nature has to offer, but you might even have the local hyena pack visit which brings about a ton of excitement and photographic opportunities. To end the day on a cool note, take a dip in the unspoiled splash pool which provides relief from the hot and humid Lowveld bush evenings.
Game drives are conducted from Nhongo Lodge into the Kruger National Park with your guide and vehicle from Nhongo Safaris. Night Safaris are conducted exclusively by the Kruger National Park . The Kruger National Park can be entered from Crocodile Bridge Gate approximately 14km from Nhongo Lodge.
The lodge is comfortable 4 to 4½ hour drive from Johannesburg / Pretoria on the N12 / N4 which takes you to the Kruger National Park and indeed Nhongo Lodge. Daily flights are also available from Johannesburg International to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (1 hour) with transfers available from the airport to Nhongo Lodge
